Join the CLUB!

What is Crone Club?

Ferocity. Freedom. Sisterhood.

Crone Club aims to make ageing and menopause a club that women don’t feel AFRAID to join.

We bring together women (and our allies), to disrupt the toxic narrative and stereotypes of female ageing and menopause so we can all feel less afraid about getting older.

Because let’s face it, life’s hard enough!

We started out as a Private Facebook group in 2022 - ten menopausal pals sharing positive content about kick-ass older women, and ‘considerately cheering each other on’. Our Facebook group has now grown to over 800 members from all over the world, taking on the algorithms to celebrate older women and the joy that can come in our ‘third act’, along with tips from older women who are ‘living their best crone lives!’

In 2023 Justine launched an e-magazine on ‘Substack’ -‘Tits to the Wind!’ to share some of the themes and content from our Private Facebook group with the world, plus her irreverent musings on getting older. It’s our aim to pull together our learning from older women to create an alternative roadmap for female ageing to help younger women embrace their third act.

We run bat-shit crazy events such as our sell out menopause disco (with spoken word) ‘Cronelines’, the Crone Human Library™️,Crone Crowning Ceremonies and Crone Camp Retreats; and an online shop with gifts for the emergent feminist crone in your life.

Two years ago, we set up Crone Club Sheffield so women could meet in person on a regular basis and try out some ‘Training for Ageing’ activities - usually run by a fellow crone!

  • “What an event! It was completely magnificent. The sheer joy of dancing with women to music made by women, celebrating the wonder of being women was just mind-blowingly brilliant. "

  • it was so moving and uplifting being in a room listening to fabulous women speaking with passion and insight and humour in a way that made me feel completely exposed and 'seen' but also fiercely cherished. Just so good for the soul!

  • In a world where older women are at best ignored at worst reviled, walking into a venue where age isn't a badge of shame but cause for celebration feels radical, empowering and joyful. This was a unique event, beautifully held and curated. It felt like coming home.

  • And it's so important that as we age we're able to go on having FUN! And that women can meet together in a completely supportive environment, free of politics, trolling, and the intense faction fighting that I remember from womens' groups I've had involvement with in the past

  • It’s great to have a space to spend time with women in a similar stage of life. To remind ourselves that we are full and powerful participants in this life, and to remember the struggles that have enabled us to become who we are. It's fun and also encouraging and gives a boost to get back out there into the fray of work, family, community and aging!

  • older women need safe, accepting spaces where we can be ourselves. I want to have all the fun I had as a younger woman without all the bloody competition and tension and weird vibes. I just want to hang out with sisters and get my body grooving and moving by dancing in any old way I like, and I want to sit and chat with women who've all got shitloads of talent, experience and stories.

  • Thank you. Inspirational. Thanks for the gift of that interview Justine and what important lessons Kath has for us. I feel that we need more intergenerational conversations like this to really frame our understanding of the world today. Kathleen brought rich perspective and I love the no- nonsense way she engaged with people. There is so much we can learn from our past to inform the challenges of today. Rest in Peace Kathleen.

Can you get to Sheffield a few times a year to have fun trying different stuff and connecting with like-minded crones and ‘crones-in-training?’

I’ve joined because I’m done with disappearing, from mirrors, from history, from expectation. I want to keep lifting, learning and laughing with women who know what it means to hold it all: grief, beauty, defiance and humour.

“the demonisation of older women affects all women. it interRupts the passing down of knowledge an undermines the foundations of inclusive feminist politics across the divisions of culture and class.”
